La Paz Mexico
La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur with a population now exceeding 200,000. Many people will remember La Paz from the John Steinbeck novel The Pearl (1947) and mentioned extensively in his travelogue The Log from the Sea of Cortez (1951). The city is also the setting of the children's novella The Black Pearl (1967) by Scott O'Dell, chosen as a Newbery Honor Book in 1968.
La Paz has grown incredibly due in large part to one its having one of the highest standards of living and quality of life in Mexico. Average wages range about $27 USD per day compared with the country’s minimum wage of around $4.25 per day.
As a tourist destination La Paz has a wonderful climate and many activities offered by the warm Gulf waters. There are several areas protected by the World Heritage Bio-Reserves organization and eco-tourism is a mainstay in this area.
La Paz is famous for its marinas, Paraiso del Mar, Costa Baja Marina, Marina de La Paz, Palmira Marina, and Marina Sur. Experienced seamen will delight in exploring the surrounding waters. Sailors and boaters of all levels of expertise enjoy the short hops between islands where you can spend the night nestled in a cove.
Visitors can also enjoy water sports like deep sea fishing, diving, snorkeling, and kayaking. The waters are clear and blue and where local divers gather fish and pearls. La Paz has some of the most beautiful sunsets anywhere and artists flock to the area to capture the sheer beauty on canvass.
With the urban redevelopment of La Paz well underway, it has increasingly become a popular retirement place. After all, it’s only a 2 hour plane trip from Los Angeles and it has so much to offer.
